Finance

When a decision turns on the numbers, the numbers have to be right, and read correctly. Finance is the discipline that keeps a business sound enough to act with confidence, and honest enough to see itself clearly.

Every business decision has a financial dimension, and every financial question has a business one; the two cannot be separated. So Finance at Retinue is not a standalone accounting service. It is depth we bring within the wider relationship, when a decision needs a rigorous financial model, when a transaction needs a clear-eyed read on a business's position, or when an engagement surfaces a controls or compliance gap that has to be closed.

The credential is direct and institutional: nearly two decades at Ernst and Young and Citibank in finance, controls, tax and regulatory reporting, across financial-statement preparation, audit, tax compliance, risk and control frameworks, and process transformation, at institutions where the stakes and the scrutiny were high. This is specific, deep experience, available where the work genuinely calls for it, usually without a referral to a third party. Where we use AI in our own reporting and controls, we can say where it safely helps, and where audit and regulation require a human to remain accountable.

What Finance covers

Our Finance work covers four areas: accounting and reporting; financial management; taxation; and risk and control. It is a request-based capability that surfaces within the broader relationship when the engagement requires it, rather than a service bought on its own.

Accounting and Reporting

Getting the numbers right, and reported so they can be trusted and acted on: financial statements to the applicable standards, whether Indian GAAP, US GAAP or IFRS, a clean and timely close, reconciliations that hold, and reporting that is audit-ready and genuinely useful to management and the board. You get financial information you can stand behind, and a smoother relationship with your auditors.

Financial Management

Keeping the business financially sound and ready for what it intends to do: working-capital discipline across receivables, payables and cash; budgeting, forecasting and the financial models that decisions rest on; and clear sight of liquidity, cost and profitability. When a growth move turns on the numbers, we make sure the numbers are rigorous, not hopeful. You commit to decisions the finances can actually carry.

Taxation

Meeting tax obligations properly, and understanding the tax consequences before, not after, a decision: compliance across direct and indirect taxes, sound tax accounting and provisioning, and a steady hand through assessments and exposures. You stay compliant, and you are not surprised by the tax outcome of a choice you have already made.

Risk and Control

Building the discipline that keeps a business safe and credible: a strong control environment set from the top, preventive, detective and corrective controls, clear ownership of each risk, segregation of duties, and regulatory compliance embedded in the process rather than bolted on. You protect the business's assets, its reporting and its reputation, before a gap becomes an incident.

How it connects. Finance most often surfaces within another engagement, the numbers behind a Strategy decision, the model behind a growth move, the diligence behind an M&A transaction, or the controls behind a Technology change, and it sits close to Governance, where financial discipline and board accountability meet.
